I purchased this 1981 GS1000G from the original owner on March 9, 1989, mileage at time of purchase 12874 (20727 km). The GS1000 was in slightly worse condition than most of the used machines I have purchased and I don't believe it was ever garaged by the previous owner. I have restored it for the most part although nothing on the GS1000G has been repainted or rechromed - the paint and chrome are original. A strong performer offering a very comfortable ride, great seat and superb shaft drive system, it is in very good but not flawless condition.
The GS1000G was one of my "riders" on a more-or-less regular basis until 2007 when I prepared it for long-term storage with a mileage reading of approximately 23300 (37513 km). In May and June of 2011 I revived it for a "freshening" consisting of a new front tire, new fork seals, a new regulator-rectifier, check valve adjustment (all in spec), oil and filter change, new seat cover plus other minor maintenance and detailing. After 2 rides of 100+ miles (161+ km) each I have since returned the GS1000G to long-term storage with a mileage reading of 23605 (38004 km). It is performing flawlessly and is just a pleasure to ride.
The GS1000G is pictured above overlooking Twin Lakes, Colorado, at an approximate elevation of 9640ft (2938 meters).

The 1981 models were the last GS1000Gs offered for sale in the U.S. The GS1100G/GK was introduced for the 1982 model year.
Here's a nice image of the GS1000 from a ride in May, 2006. It's pictured at Echo Lake, Colorado, elevation 10597 ft (3232 meters). Click to enlarge.
The four pics below are from various rides on the GS1000G.
